Description: From its humble beginning over 100 years ago in Iowa, Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company has grown to be the largest primary reinsurer of farm mutuals in North America. Grinnell Mutual currently operates in 12 States.

Providing valuable services to member farm and county mutual companies, agents, adjusters, and others, the Special Investigations Department provides critical information to complete loss investigations.

Services provided include fire and explosion investigation, fraud investigation, workers compensation, lightning damage examination, building collapse, and group presentations.

In addition, the Special Investigations Unit maintains a climate controlled evidence facility specifically designed for the safe storage of items held as evidence in subrogation, product liability, arson, fraud and other insurance related litigation. Trained staff investigators maintain evidence sheets, logs and computer files to track these items.

With a staff of 14 investigators, an evidence technician and five support staff, the Grinnell Mutual Special Investigations Unit is recognized around the country for its expertise and professionalism. Many of its members have years of prior experience in law enforcement and arson investigations. Its members have also participated in international panels of experts, held leadership positions in industry-related organizations and organized regional burn cell training opportunities for emergency services personnel, arson investigators and claims adjusters.
