The theme for the 2009 Arson Awareness Week campaign is "Arson for Profit"

The goal of this year's AAW, May 3-9, is to focus public attention on arson for profit. By drawing people's at­tention to the alarming statistics about arson for profit, we hope to expand the resources and support neces­sary to reduce this crime. There are many motives for arson - the crime of deliberately and maliciously set­ting fire. Arson for profit, or economic arson, is when businesses or individuals set fires to reduce financial loss, recoup initial investments, or dispose of depreciated assets usually for a payout from insurance companies.

Arson for profit is insurance fraud, a criminal meth­od of obtaining money from a fire loss policy. The losses for arson are staggering!

State Fire Marshal Sink Encourages Floridians to Participate in ...

Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Alex Sink today extended an invitation to Floridians around the state to participate in Arson Awareness Week.

Arson Awareness Week focuses on arson for profit

Arson for profit affects the public through increased insurance premiums, related expenses for the fire and police personnel and loss of life and property, said Capt. Christopher Murtha, a spokesman for the Wilmington, Fire  Department . PA 

North Fort Myers Fire officials part of Arson Awareness Week

North Fort Myers Fire District officials will be participating in an arson awareness event together with the Lee County Fire/Arson Task Force at Miramar Outlet Mall on May 9.

Arson awareness week

Last year, the Utica Arson Task Force investigated 78 fires within the city, 42 of which were deemed intentionally set. This year, they have already encountered nine cases.

Gov. Martin O'Malley has proclaimed Arson Awareness Week to raise consciousness of this costly problem and illustrate steps that can be taken to combat it.

Arson Awareness Week: Arson for Profit in the US

According to the Insurance Information Institute, arson for profit fires destroyed nearly $900 million in property loss and killed 295 civilians in 2007. $900 million is very close to one billion.
